Thoughts While Watching "The Lorax"
1) Is it just me, or does Mr, O'Hare look like that Edna lady from The Incredibles??? Observe:
4) WHY CAN'T I HAVE A TRIO OF SINGING FISH???
And lastly, I HAVE to describe to you, the way the Lorax flies around. Now what I'm about to share with you is a freakishly accurate account and I swear it is completely unexaggerated. It's LITERALLY how he flies, and no, I am not misusing that word:
He picks up his little duck tail thingy, lifts his backside and floats off, carrying himself away by his rump. Yes.
The day human's achieve this method of transportation is the day all of my wildest dreams come true.
That is all.
If you filled in his bangs, they could be twins.
2) I have a newfound respect for grandaddy snails.
3) Why don't our trees look like stripy straws with pink and orange hair???4) WHY CAN'T I HAVE A TRIO OF SINGING FISH???
5) I want to marry Betty White. But I guess that's what we all really want, deep down.

Happy 100th post, my little bloggypoo
Hey peeps, guess what?? (Yes, I did just call you a sugar coated marshmallow. Take it as a compliment.) Anyways, THIS IS MY 100th POST!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH----Hm, I feel like I'm not handling this as maturely as I could be. Maybe I should thank people? Okay, I'll do that:
I'd like to thank my readers most of all. And when I say "my readers", I hope it applies to more than three people, one of whom is most likely my mother. But if it doesn't, I want those two other people to know how much I really do love them. You hear that? I LOVE you. Okay, this is getting too mushy for me so I'll just continue on with my thank yous. I'd also like to thank my wonderful friends (Polythene Pam and Miss Mixie!), my family, and last--but not least--the academy! That's the Oscars stupid. Oh, right. Heh.
Speaking of the Oscars (smooth transition, right?), did you watch 'em? I did. :) And every time someone that I liked won, I would jump up, run across the room, and hug my cat. Now she's avoiding me.... I keep forgetting she hates being squeezed. I can just see her glaring at me now, meowing, "You know I'm not a tube of toothpaste."
I also have to say, I have a new celebrity obsession. Jean Dujardin is like my french Darren Criss. (Except he's married and nearly 40.)
Oops, I forgot this is supposed to be all about my 100th post accomplishment! Well, here's a picture I took in celebration:

That's my bro... He's so cute. <3
It's funny, while we took this photo, I was actually carrying him so he wouldn't get his socks wet outside. We may look happy, but the conversation we were having at the time went a little like this:
Me: OH MY GOD, YOU ARE SO FAT.
C-Dawg: Hey don't drop me!
Me: When did you get so heavy? YOU WEIGH LIKE A MILLION POUNDS.
C-Dawg: No, YOU WAY A MILLION POUNDS.
Me: FATTY.
C-Dawg: I hate this. I hate this. I hate this.
Me: Hey, you're not the one throwing out your back, FATSO.
C-Dawg: You're the fat one!
Me: No, you are.
C-Dawg: No, you are!
Me: AARRRGGHHHHH.
(It's funny cause my brother is actually like the skinniest kid on the planet.)
But really guys.... thank you so much for reading this! You make my day. :)

Mix Tape #9: Stick it to them dirty dishes!
I can't believe how long it's been since I've made a mix tape!! Well, here we go... my ninth mix! It's for washing dishes. :) Because really, what's more boring and unpleasant than washing dishes? Not a lot. Which is why the activity sorely needs an accompanying mix of music full of energy and catchy choruses.
Just a heads-up, I find that this one's mainly composed of older songs from the 60-80s, because I guess I prefer scrubbing dishes to oldie classics. I hope you do too! Enjoy. :D
1. "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor
This is kind of the most inspirational song ever, which makes it great for washing dishes. I find that when I start out, I always feel so hopeless because I know I have a mountain of spaghetti covered ceramic staring at me from the sink. BUT, when I play this song I feel like I can do ANYTHING. I mean, it's all like "DUH. DUH DUH DUH. DUH DUH DUH. DUH DUH DUHHHHHHHH." So it's always a great way to start off a dish washing mix tape!
2. "Modern Love" by David Bowie
I LOVE DAVID BOWIE. I know I've definitely said this before but I just thought I'd repeat it in case anyone had forgotten... Since David Bowie is awesome, he obviously has to be featured in this mix. Come on, think about it. How can you be unhappy when David Bowie is playing anywhere within a 30 ft radius?? Pshhh, I'll tell you: it's impossible. Even if you're elbow deep in a mixture of water and other people's half eaten food! This song is also full of energy and really fun to sing along to. I think it's very important to listen to songs that you enjoy singing when you wash dishes. It always makes things 10 times more fun.
3. "Greased Lightning" by Grease (John Travolta)
Yes. This is happening, I am including a song from Grease. You're welcome Polethene Pam! Is it just me, or is hunky, young John Travolta not absolutely drool-worthy? I just loooove him. And honestly, even today (though I find him less attractive) he's pretty great. He was hilarious in Hairspray... Anyways, this is one of my favorite songs from the movie (yes I'm talking movie here, not the musical) and I just love it! Why this car could be systematic... Hydromatic... Ultramatic... Why it could be greased lightning!
4. "Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Foundations
SUCH a great sing along song. And sooooo much fun to dance around to with your friends!! It's just one of those songs that are incredibly catchy and classic.... It always puts me in a good mood, no matter what state I'm in. Do you have a song like that? You should totally share it with me. ;)
5. "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow
This and "Eye of the Tiger" are the two songs I never ever EVER leave out of my dish washing mix tapes. Ever. I first heard "Copacabana" in my 6th grade music class, and we had to learn the lyrics and analyze the song and I fell in love with it instantly. The moment I got home, I went straight to iTunes and bought it immediately! I love playing it with friends, or even just my little brother. We sing along and dance around and act out the verses... It's great. And though it's a little harder to dance to when you're stuck at the sink, I think it just gives a challenging twist to the dish washing process. If you haven't heard this song before: 1) I AM SHOCKED! and 2) I'm not gonna tell you exactly what happens, because I'd spoil it. But I will say I think it's intriguing how happy and upbeat it is, while the actual story is so utterly depressing in the end...
6. "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera
I sort of felt like I should try to include a couple newer songs, so I chose Maroon 5 as one of my contemporary selections. I really love Maroon 5 (Adam Levine.... ahhhhhhhhh) and this is a pretty great song. Even my dad likes it, and he's very critical of my generation's music. I also think it's cool how they use actual footage of Mick Jagger in the music video. And it's hilarious that in this same video... Adam Levine really doesn't have a whole lot of moves at all. Yes, a gorgeous body he does have, but moves like Jagger? Not so much.
7. "Don't Fuck With My Money" by Penguin Prison
And this is my second contemporary song! I guess they're back to back.... Hmmmmm I don't know how I feel about that.. But oh well. I think it sounds good this way. Anywho, this is a song that I discovered a little while back. The singing is very much my style, and the lyrics are super catchy. And the whole song is this protest/response from the middle class to wall street and the 1%. It's from their first album, and I am CRAZY EXCITED about the group. Ooh and the music video is AWESOME. So awesome in fact, that I think I have to include it here:
If you haven't heard this song, I strongly suggest you listen to it. Oh, and if you have an aversion to profanity, even when used in an epic context such as this one, no fear! There's a clean version called "Don't Fuss With My Money".
8. "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" by Wham!
Though the last two songs strayed a little from the style I had previously set up for our dish washing adventure, this last one, I think, returns the mix to it nicely. It's another really great, classic feel-good song that's uber catchy and fun to move around to. And it's a great way to scrape the gunk off of those last few dishes... Hoorahhhh.
Yep. That's my mix tape for today! I hope you liked it and maybe even use it next time you are given the unpleasant task of kitchen cleanup. Oh, and let me just say, dishes are the most fun when you're doing them with friends! So whenever you're at a dinner party or something where the adults have the NERVE to make the children do the dishes (GAAASSSPPP), if you have some buddies there, just play this mix and have fun! It'll go by like a blast.

A day of babies and shopping and Sherlock Holmes...
I don't know why, but I have been taking pictures all day, documenting my many splendid adventures, so I thought I might as well share my afternoon with y'all.
I was invited to a birthday party for some really adorable 1 year old baby neighbors today. My maman and I were thinking about it when we realized we didn't have any presents!! And that simply wouldn't do. Sooooo we went SHOPPING! Which is exactly what I had been hoping to do! T'was perfect....
Except we sort of got sidetracked. As we were on our way to the toy store, we passed this awesome chocolate shop that serves the most delicious drinking chocolate ever, so we just HAD to stop OF COURSE.
After we purchased our liquid chocolate as well as some sea salt caramels, we headed to the toy store... Then found out it had relocated so it was now conveniently placed next to this ridiculously fantastic vintage store called "Magpie". I swear, every time I go into this store, I always find something that I have to have. So of course we had to delay our toy shopping to drop into "Magpie".
Before I even walked in, I saw the cutest little antique monkey stuffed animals in the window... Unfortunately I already have a stupendous collection of stuffed items hoarded away in my house (some from my younger years, some more... heheh... recently acquired). What can I say, I have an addiction to stuffed animals. They are my kryptonite.
Gosh, I wanted those monkeys sooo bad!! But I resisted the temptation. Well... sort of. I bought something else that was equally unneeded later on.
First off, here are the super cute monkeys:
Aren't they cute??? They're a boy monkey and a girl monkey and they're HUGGING!! AWWWWWWW.. They're from the 70's from an obviously discontinued line called "Nature Babies". And. I. Want. Them.
I also found a bag that I reaaalllyyy liked:
It's also a 70s piece. Hmm. Maybe I'm going through a phase.
Now here is the really silly thing that I bought. Please don't judge me. Please. But... it's a box. A teeny tiny wooden box, for which I payed... $12. *GASP*
I know right? Obviously, I will be using it for a different purpose.
I know, I know it's ridiculous. But... I just couldn't help it. You know how sometimes you find something, and even though it's the last thing you need and way overpriced... you just can't get it out of your mind? Sometimes I find things that just feel... magical. And special. And inspiring. And when I find these kinds of things, and I'm able to afford them... then I have to get them.
My mom also found a ton of awesome stuff and so we ended up chillin' in there for a looonngg time. And the super cute puppy sleeping on the counter didn't help us get out any faster either...
When we finally dragged ourselves out of "Magpie", we went to the toy store and I have to say, it made me wish I was still 6 years old. It's been ages since I've been to a good old kid's toy store and it made me sooo nostalgic... These are some of the things I found:
Look how freaky realistic this is!! I'm telling you, this would have freaked out little 6-year-old Calypso.
This penguin puppet was sooo funny. Doesn't it kind of look like it's pondering whether or not to eat you?
It's SPOT! Well, actually I guess it's three Spots. I used to love this little guy... I think I've mentioned it before. I was blown away though, cuz I had never seen a stuffed animal version of him! This would've made my day 10 years ago. In fact... it kind of still made my day. Wellllll, this and my magic box.
So we ended up getting some cute little teething toys for the babies, since after all they're only one year old. Then, after we went to the party (babies are so cute and smushy btw), we went to... THE NEW SHERLOCK HOLMES MOVIE!!!! And I'm just gonna say... IT. WAS. AMAZING. And absolutely hilarious. I very rarely find myself full on cackling with delight when I'm in a dark theater, it's usually just silent laughter, but this movie actually made me laugh SO hard. But it was also really dramatic and thrilling and really, really well shot. Honestly, it was very aesthetically pleasing and the effects were so cool.
There was this amazing scene where they're running through these woods and they're being shot at and it's in slow motion but not in a lame way and it was just.... great. It's one of those movies that I want to go out and actually, physically purchase just so I can watch it over and over and over again. Robert Downey Jr. is a fantastic Sherlock Holmes.
It really is an indescribably awesome movie and you need to go see it. Really. I promise. You will not regret it at all. Trust me. "DO YOU TRUST ME?" "NO." "WELL WE'LL HAVE TO WORK ON THAT." "WHA---" *Pushes you off of the train* If you go see the movie, you'll get what I just did there. Here's the trailer:
So yes. Overall, very good day. And I think I'll have to go see that movie again...

Calypso's guide to curing the sneezles.
The following is my guide to feeling better when you're sick in that really urksome way where you feel like crap but there's nothing seriously wrong with you (or, as I call it, when you're sick with the sneezles :P):
- If you're up to it, take a bath. Or a shower. People tend to ignore their personal hygiene when they're sick. I totally get this and sometimes I do it too cause I just hate the idea of dragging myself out of bed... But if you can, I would seriously recommend cleaning yourself. It makes you feel sooo much better! Being sick sucks by itself, but being sick AND stanky?? Horrible!
- Put on your favorite, most comfortable PJs! Now that you're all squeaky clean, it's time to get this party started! Fuzzy socks are good too btw. :) Sorry, I'm just a big believer in the power of socks. With a good pair of socks, I feel that you can accomplish anything. I mean.. think about it. Abraham Lincoln was wearing socks when he abolished slavery. And Einstein? He wore socks almost every day of his life, and probably when he came up with the theory of relativity! Rosa Parks? You know she was totally wearing socks on that bus. Michael Jackson? Wore socks every time he danced. ALL GREAT MEN AND WOMEN WEAR SOCKS. They all breathe too. Shut UP, italic me...
- Now since you're sick, you really don't want to infect all your friends and family, and you're probably not up for entertaining people anyways, but that doesn't mean you have to spend the whole day all by yourself!!! That's what we have cats for! And stuffed animals! And don't be such a drama queen, this isn't the Velveteen Rabbit. You don't have to burn all the toys you touched while you were sick... I mean seriously, what the hell was that doctor thinking? Hasn't he ever heard of a washing machine?? Ummm Calypso, they didn't have washing machines. And the kid was sick with scarlet fever, not the "sneezles". It's kind of different. Ahhhh go away, italic me. Anyways, after you've gathered all your plushy bff's or whatever your equivalent is, it's time to...
- ...pick a location to totally take over!! You either want a room with a TV and a super comfy couch/bed, or your own bedroom, with access to a laptop or television as well. TV is, for me at least, the greatest thing ever when you're sick. I wouldn't survive my sneezles without it. If you want to check out some of my fav TV shows, check out this post. When I'm sick, I like to watch: the early seasons of "The Office" and "Grey's Anatomy", "House", "30 Rock", "Psych" and "Frasier". I also like to veg out to movies! Likeee... "When Harry Met Sally" or "You've Got Mail" or "Sleepless in Seattle"! I don't know why, Meg Ryan just makes me feel better. :) Fun Fact: she's my dad's celebrity crush! How adorable and hilarious is that? Also, if all you have is a laptop, might I recommend Netflix Instant Streaming? Totally great and so worth the monthly payment. And very handy when you're sick! http://www.cucirca.com/ is good too if you don't have NIS but still want to watch some good TV shows.
- While TV and movies and stuffed animals and socks are all very awesome, there's nothing like the loving care of a family to get you feeling good as new! Make sure they all know that you're horribly, and on the verge of TERMINALLY, ill. ;) That way, you know they'll take gooood care of you and bring you all the weirdly specific snacks and beverages that you demand! I have a really weird and sporadic appetite when I'm sick. I'll be hunger-strikin' it out like Gandhi for the first few days, then all of a sudden I'll start craving the weirdest foods and drinks. Luckily, I have an awesome Maman who supplies me with all my weird dietary desires and a lovely Papa who makes me all the tea I could ever need! Oh, and a beautiful brother who brings all of this stuff right to my room! ....for the low, low price of $2.99 and the promise that I won't disturb him while he watches his precious Doctor Who... :P
- After you've done all of this, don't forget to get your vitally important beauty sleep! Really, sleep is sooo important if you want to make a full recovery. Just sleep whenever you can, whether that be 1 in the morning, or 1 in the afternoon. If you're like me though, sleeping will be very hard when you're sick... so the second best thing is rest! And TEAAA!!! With honey, for your throat. MMMmmmmmmm :) No coffee kids! Coffee is BAAAD for your sneezles. Bad! Don't you go sneaking it behind my back now... It's for your own good.
Nobody reading this is probably actually sick but it is that time of year so you might be very soon... You never knoww... So yeahhh.. If you do get the sneezles, that's my advice. :) Hope it helps!

In which I realize I suck at finding the bright side. (But I kill at finding the gross and disturbing side.)
Hello! I'm sad... Why you ask? Well, I was planning on writing a special post today about something I got a little while back but I didn't get all the pictures for it taken! So now I can't post it today... I know, it's tragic. I can tell you're really torn up by the news. STAY CALM, you'll get through this.
Anyways.... how are you doing? I'm good. Wait, no I'm not! I'm mad! My stupid computer convinced me to install the latest AVG thing and now it's controlling my Google searches and it won't let me see suggestions... You know how, when you type a phrase (ex: "why is there") into Google it suggests the most frequently searched things starting with that phrase, like "why is there fuzz on a tennis ball" and such? Well mine doesn't do that anymore.. :( It's making me very sad.
On the bright side... give me a minute, I need to think of something bright. Hmm. Oh, I saw Contagion!! I don't know if you've heard of that movie or not, but it is super wicked awesome dawg. I looovved it. And I saw it right after reading The Hot Zone, so it was great timing. Have you heard of The Hot Zone? It's basically this book about this virus called Ebola and some of it's sister viruses (ex: Marburg) and this time that it broke out in the suburbs of Washington. Ebola is pretty much the scariest thing ever. There's no cure, it kills 90% of its victims and some strains of it can be transferred through the air (aka you just have to breathe it in to get infected). If that's not bad enough, it's got really horrible symptoms. Basically, your eyes turn red and your skin gets all blotchy and the connective tissues in your face dissolve and then your internal organs, including your brain, start to liquify and you vomit blood and then you "crash and bleed" which means you start bleeding from every orifice of your body and then die. Pleasant, right? And that's leaving out the really gross stuff. I hope you weren't eating something just now. Anywho, the book was really interesting so when I heard about Contagion, I decided to go see it. Contagion is sooooo good. I think what makes the movie scary isn't really the disease itself, which had much less dramatic and disgusting symptoms then Ebola, but just how realistic it was. Something like that could happen any day and that's pretty freaky... I also really loved how the movie was filmed. They used this really, really short depth of field, so that the main focus of the scene was really sharp and clear and then everything around it was this sort of hazy, dream like blur. The lighting was also really cool. You should go see it. NOW. Wow, I just realized that I started this train of thought with "on the bright side" and then went on to describe liquified organs and vomiting blood... I think I need to take a close look at my life.
On this adorable note, I shall make my speedy depart.
Anyways.... how are you doing?
Just in case you're a squeamish type, here is a picture of my friend's kitten to help you clear your mind of everything just mentioned. (Except for when I recommended Contagion. Cause it's really awesome and you need to go see it. So yeah. Don't forget that part.):
On this adorable note, I shall make my speedy depart.
